Kreuzberg is a quarter in Berlin, one of the largest Turkish cities in the world. See what's new in Kreuzberg and the rest of Berlin at Kreuzberg Online. Kreuzberg is also planning a sister-city partnership with Kadiköy/Istanbul (Anatolian side), where I lived in 1993. BTW, Kadiköy is famous for the Fenerbahce Soccer Club, which was down the hill from my apartment in Moda. I could watch the games on TV and hear the roar of the crowd come up the hill seconds later. I was actually a Galatasaray fan, however. Cim-bom-bom! They are year 2000 UEFA cup champs!

According to legend, the Ottoman Turks left bags of coffee behind when they lifted the second siege of Vienna in 1683. Actually, there were coffee houses in Vienna and coffee in Western Europe some time before this, probably introduced by travellers, diplomats, businessmen, etc. Get the full story as well as links to Turkish coffee and Vienna coffeehouses from my Coffee page. You can also write me for works dealing with the Ottoman threat in Europe.
